MONDAY 30 August - 6pm - THE VAULT a salon for creative types

The Vault is a monthly get-together for creatively inclined folk held at Loop on the last Monday of the month. Our aim is to gather together creative people - be they artists, writers, musicians, media, marketers, entrepreneurs (etc) - who can meet each other in a friendly, convivial atmosphere, share and generate ideas. This month's topic: Has the VCA really been saved? This month’s guest speaker and special presentation: Sophie Brous is the program director of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, Australia's largest and most respected multi-disciplinary jazz festival. MONDAY 30 August - 9pm - BENE GESSERIT HOUSE NURSERIES      

Bene Gesserit House Nurseries presents another night of chilling dark ambient cinema featuring regular artists Abre ojos collab set with Bene Gesserit founder B.Taylor. Shanie Reynolds returned with his project 'Czura' along with the dank resonance of Rotteur. The laptop manglings of Illuminoscilate as well as new to the House Nurseries bill 'Electronic Shaman' and MV. Promises to be a good night in Loop's engine room. Free Entry.

   
TUESDAY 31 August - 7pm - ANIMATION CLUB!!! presents SECRET HANDSHAKE      

Each month on the last Tuesday, animators from all around the world create a short animation upon a given topic which is then screened and voted upon by the audience. The winner receives fame and glory... and gets to choose the next month's topic. All animation styles & ability levels are welcome. Just entertain us!

WEDNESDAY 1 September - 6pm & 8pm - HOPE IN A SLINGSHOT Screening      

Hope in a Slingshot follows the filmmaker Inka Stafrace as she makes her way through the West Bank and learns of the human costs of the Military Occupation. The film was accepted by the ABC for broadcast and later revoked by Kim Dalton the Head of the ABC - further details here. Come and see why this film is still causing a rumble between our National Broadcaster and peace journalists, activists and academics. The battle to have it broadcast is still brewing. THURSDAY 2 September - 7:30pm - THE SANDPIT

     

It's not networking, it's playing.
If you're a freelance creative from any profession then come along to The Sandpit and venture out of the isolation of creative freelancing. If you hate networking but like meeting people over a few drinks this is the event for you. There's no agenda and no catch - just drinks, good conversation and an opportunity to share ideas with like-minded individuals. Held on the first Thursday of every month from 7.30 at LOOP. THURSDAY 2 September - 8pm - DEAN RICHARDS & RON RUDE (LIVE)      

An instrumental guitar event. Three instrumental guitar sets - Disturbed Earth (Dean Richards of Whirlywirld and Equal local, later of Chicago-based Atmo Works label), followed by Ron Rude solo, then a climatic set where both perform as a duo. A listenable experience that sits somewhere between a soundscape and a melodic composition. Avoiding the one-dimensionality of many ambient and noise guitar performances, timbres and instruments will constantly morph from one to another, to create a shifting dreamscape of tonal surprises.

   
THURSDAY 2 September - 9pm - PHOTOGRAPHY NIGHT WALKS      

Photography night walks will be held every Thursday and Sunday from 6.30pm - 8.30pm at different locations in the Melbourne CBD. Each Thursday will be followed by the screening of that nights works immediately after at Loop from 9.00pm. All levels of experience welcome. Night Walk cost $15 - Just bring yourself and your camera and come to Loop afterwards for instant visual gratification and a warm drink. Ever think that your weekend was too short to go out and listen to the same dull music all night? That your ears and feet deserve better? Music Appreciation Society: where selections journey through genres as far as the eye can see. Inspired by Soul, HipHop, Boogie & Disco with everything in between and beyond. Join Esty & friends as they bring the true soulful sound of the underground to Loop. 10pm - late. Free Entry.

   
SATURDAY 4 September - 2pm - AN AFTERNOON WITH MAYA      

Five of Melbourne's best experimental acts have organised for you the opportunity to see them play new soundtracks live to the films of Maya Deren. Maya Deren was the first lady of avant-garde film making in the 1940's and 1950's, not only a filmmaker in her own right but also collaborating with the likes of Marcel Duchamp and Antony Tudor - further details here. Her films are a wonderfully textured and moodily lit black and white and deal with themes such as ritual, movement, violence and beauty. Occult Blood, Rottuer, Siilt, Electronic Shaman and Abre Ojos will play their own unique soundtracks to her films, including improvisations between Occult Blood and Rotteur, - Sillt, Electronic Shaman and Abre Ojos.

SATURDAY 4 September - 10pm - PICKLED BEATS
Once again Loop is kicking off another month with the Pickled Beats DJs on the wheels of steel! DJs Zanda, Lickweed & Mr. Nice bring you a phat selection of the best funk & Hip Hop in town with a groovy addition of some break beats and Drum n Bass! The Pickled residents are joined by DJ Ego, controlling the visuals and sound as he joins Mr. Nice for an amazing A/V show, not to be missed! Wear comfortable clothes and bring you dancing shoes and get ready to rip the dance floor when these boys get on stage! 10pm till Late - FREE Entry!
